Mission: The UDES integrally forms citizens of academic and professional quality, with international projection, competent in the different areas of knowledge, sensitive to the rational use of natural and technological resources, which contribute through the relationship with the environment, human development, art and culture. It develops research and extension with visibility of results in the solution of problems of the region, the country and the world, within a framework of democratic principles and ethical and aesthetic values.
Vision: In 2028 the University of Santander will be recognised regionally, nationally and internationally for its academic quality, the generation of new knowledge and innovation, its link with the environment that impacts people's quality of life and its contribution to the development of the northeast region and the country.

The following data gives a quick reading on the scientific performance in the last years. The research ranking refers to the volume, impact and quality of the institution's research output. The innovation ranking is calculated on the number of patent applications of the institution and the citations that its research output receives from patents. Finally, the societal ranking is based on the number of pages of the institution's website and the number of backlinks and mentions from social networks.
The result of the evaluation of the institution can be compared to obtain a view of the country, the region to which it belongs and the institutions of the world, placing it in their respective positions.
