Mission: The Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas is a social space and an institutional organization, an autonomous entity of the district order, which has among its purposes the formation of specialized professionals and active citizens; the production and reproduction of scientific knowledge, as well as technological innovation and artistic creation. It encourages the dialogue of knowledge and promotes a pedagogy, capable of encouraging reflection and curiosity in students; it also fosters a critical spirit in the search for open truths; in the promotion of science and creation; likewise, of citizenship and democracy; and it encourages deliberation, based on argumentation and reasoned dialogue.
Vision: By 2030 the Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas will be recognized, nationally and internationally, as an institution of high quality in the formation of responsible citizens and professionals of the best level, in the production of scientific, artistic knowledge and technological innovation; purposes that will deploy in the fields of teaching, research and extension.

The following data gives a quick reading on the scientific performance in the last years. The research ranking refers to the volume, impact and quality of the institution's research output. The innovation ranking is calculated on the number of patent applications of the institution and the citations that its research output receives from patents. Finally, the societal ranking is based on the number of pages of the institution's website and the number of backlinks and mentions from social networks.
