Mission: In times of complex problems and major social challenges, the University of Witten/Herdecke (UW/H) sees itself as a place of critical and alert observation, of astute and enlightened analysis, and as a developmental space for change, reform and transformation. For this reason, the University integrates important social issues into its courses of study and research; it promotes and encourages critical discussion and encourages courageous, committed and effective action both inside and outside the University. In this sense, UW/H and its members are actively involved in shaping the future - in teaching, research and society.

The following data gives a quick reading on the scientific performance in the last years. The research ranking refers to the volume, impact and quality of the institution's research output. The innovation ranking is calculated on the number of patent applications of the institution and the citations that its research output receives from patents. Finally, the societal ranking is based on the number of pages of the institution's website and the number of backlinks and mentions from social networks.
