Mission: The Marqués de Valdecilla University Hospital, as a public hospital of the Autonomous Region of Cantabria, has the aim of providing highly specialized and reference health services to the citizens of the Autonomous Region of Cantabria and the rest of the country. The highly qualified procedures and care quality will be in the diagnostic, therapeutic and management aspects. The hospital has a clear commitment to the environment, waste management and society, collaborating with institutions and social initiatives for progress and development by using resources efficiently. We promote an internal labour framework with a strong corporate identity, motivating and promoting our workers, seeking their individual and collective satisfaction.
Vision: We aim, through the dedication, involvement, training and efforts of the professionals, to maintain the status of reference hospital in the Autonomous Community of Cantabria and the rest of Spain. Likewise, a constant and permanent effort is understood as necessary to achieve areas of excellence in the areas of care, teaching and research with maximum effectiveness and efficiency. These areas of excellence can provide coverage to patients from outside our borders, given its historical vocation as a reference hospital. We aspire to maintain the best competitive position as an efficient hospital with respect to hospitals of such size and complexity in the National Health System (NHS) network. Likewise, we intend to contribute to the high complexity hospital care in the supraregional and international scope, developing new care lines and diagnostic-therapeutic innovation.

The following data gives a quick reading on the scientific performance in the last years. The research ranking refers to the volume, impact and quality of the institution's research output. The innovation ranking is calculated on the number of patent applications of the institution and the citations that its research output receives from patents. Finally, the societal ranking is based on the number of pages of the institution's website and the number of backlinks and mentions from social networks.
The result of the evaluation of the institution can be compared to obtain a view of the country, the region to which it belongs and the institutions of the world, placing it in their respective positions.
We have divided the scientific output of the institution into 19 large areas of knowledge and the following table shows only the ranks in different territorial domains achieved by the institution in each of the areas. For an institution to have a presence in an area, it is necessary that it exceed in the last year a minimum output threshold equivalent to twice the percentage that this area represents in the world. If you need scientific indicators on these areas visit Scopus and/or SciVal.
