Mission: The mission of the Universidad Juárez del Estado de Durango, in harmony with its character as an autonomous public university, establishes that we are an Institution of Higher Education that participates socially in the integral formation of free and responsible people, technically, professionally and scientifically competent; generates and applies knowledge with relevance and ethical sense, to contribute to the development of the strategic areas of the region; establishes a solid link with the productive and social sectors; and promotes and disseminates culture to preserve and strengthen local and national identity.
Vision: At the end of the 2013-2018 rector's term, the Universidad Juárez del Estado de Durango will be one of the best in the north of the country, with a sense of relevance, good quality educational programs (from high school to graduate school) and a broad link with the social and productive sectors, to contribute to the sustainable development of the state of Durango and the country. In harmony with this vision, the characteristic features that will give identity to the UJED establish that it will be consolidated as the Maximum House of Studies of Durango; it will have a dynamic and flexible academic model, guaranteeing its institutional performance; it will develop the substantive functions attending international quality standards, and local and national impact, it will have an efficient and effective management at the service of the academy.

The following data gives a quick reading on the scientific performance in the last years. The research ranking refers to the volume, impact and quality of the institution's research output. The innovation ranking is calculated on the number of patent applications of the institution and the citations that its research output receives from patents. Finally, the societal ranking is based on the number of pages of the institution's website and the number of backlinks and mentions from social networks.
The result of the evaluation of the institution can be compared to obtain a view of the country, the region to which it belongs and the institutions of the world, placing it in their respective positions.
