Mission: To contribute to the social, economic, political, scientific, technological, artistic and cultural development of Michoacán, Mexico and the world, by forming human beings with integrity, competence and leadership who generate changes in their environment, guided by the ethical values of our University, through relevant and quality educational programs; by carrying out research linked to social needs, which promotes scientific and technological progress and artistic creation; by establishing activities that rescue, preserve, increase and disseminate universal values, democratic practices and sustainable development through university outreach.

Vision: "The Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo is the top educational institution in the State of Michoacán with the widest coverage, recognized for its quality and social relevance, which forms competent, cultured, participatory beings with a democratic vocation, honest and with a nicolan identity, with the ability to solve the problems of their environment. Research and artistic creation programs are recognized locally, nationally and internationally for their contributions to the various areas of knowledge and to the sustainable solution of social problems, in close connection with educational programs. The linkage programs with national and international universities and research centers allow an intense scientific, cultural and artistic exchange as well as a great mobility of the university community. Extension activities provide advice and services oriented to satisfy specific needs of social groups and productive systems. The programs of cultural diffusion bring the diverse manifestations of the sciences, the arts and the culture to the society promoting the development of the individuals and the social groups in harmony with the environment".
