Mission: Three basic missions are entrusted to the CHUV by the public authorities: - Care: The CHUV provides treatment in all medical specialties, including psychiatry. It meets the needs of the population of the Lausanne conurbation as a hospital of first resort. It is the reference hospital for the canton and a large part of French-speaking Switzerland for patients requiring specialised and ultra-specialised care. It plays a pioneering role at the Swiss and European levels, and even internationally in recognised areas of excellence. The CHUV also carries out community medicine and health missions and supports efforts in the field of prevention and public health. - Training: As a university hospital, the CHUV participates in the pre- and post-graduate education of doctors, nurses and other health professionals, in close collaboration with the Faculty of Biology and Medicine (FBM) of the University of Lausanne (UNIL), academic societies and universities of health. The CHUV also contributes to the training provided by the universities by welcoming students for practical placements and offers apprenticeship places leading to the CFC, AFP or professional maturity. - Research: The CHUV is involved in clinical, translational and fundamental research activities in priority collaboration with UNIL and its Faculty of Biology and Medicine. The CHUV is also developing research partnerships with the EPFL, the universities, Swiss research institutions and other international institutions.
Vision: The four facets of our vision are: to strengthen our academic vocation while ensuring our mission as a regional hospital; to promote centres of excellence and play a leading role in them; to be a privileged training centre for all healthcare professionals; to offer our patients the best adapted and most effective care while respecting their individuality.

The following data gives a quick reading on the scientific performance in the last years. The research ranking refers to the volume, impact and quality of the institution's research output. The innovation ranking is calculated on the number of patent applications of the institution and the citations that its research output receives from patents. Finally, the societal ranking is based on the number of pages of the institution's website and the number of backlinks and mentions from social networks.
The result of the evaluation of the institution can be compared to obtain a view of the country, the region to which it belongs and the institutions of the world, placing it in their respective positions.
We have divided the scientific output of the institution into 19 large areas of knowledge and the following table shows only the ranks in different territorial domains achieved by the institution in each of the areas. For an institution to have a presence in an area, it is necessary that it exceed in the last year a minimum output threshold equivalent to twice the percentage that this area represents in the world. If you need scientific indicators on these areas visit Scopus and/or SciVal.
